My Two Hometowns: Big City and Blue Ridge Mountains
As you probably know, I come from Chicago, Illinois. Every time I meet people from another country and say I am from Chicago, they answer, “Oh, Chicago. Bang, bang.” Although nearly 80 years have passed since Al Capone terrorized the city, he is still the most famous part of our town. However, there are many better things to learn about Chicago. First, it is the third largest city in the US (after New York and Los Angeles). It is also where President Obama spent most of his adult life. His home is only 20 kilometers from where my parents live. We have two baseball teams (the White Sox and the Cubs), delicious pizza and hot dogs, and many of the best museums and theatres in the country.
For college, I went to a small town called Lynchburg,Virginia. It is three hours from Washington, D.C., the capitol of the US. Lynchburg is very similar to Yokote. It has a population of 100,000 people, it has a lot of farming (especially apple orchards), and it is surrounded by mountains. In fact, you may have heard of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Do you remember the song “Country Road”? The Blue Ridge Mountains mentioned in that song are the same mountains that I saw every day at school. Lynchburg is a pretty, small town just like Yokote.
I hope you enjoyed this introduction to my two hometowns. If you have any questions, please ask me!
